Mechthild of Magdeburg - works
About Mechthild of Magdeburg's Works:
Mechthild wrote her work, Das fließende Licht der Gottheit (originally Vliessende lieht miner gotheit, often translated as "Flowing light of the Godhead") in Low German instead of Latin. Latin translations were made shortly after her death. This work contains an assortment of mystical visions, letters, parables, reflections, allegories, prayers, criticism, and advice. It is divided into seven books: Books 1-5 were written during the 1250s, Book 6 in the 1260s, and Book 7 in the 1270s at Helfta.
Some scholars believe that Mechthild's description of her visions in Godhead influenced Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
